Dashboard and Scorecard Differences

We get quite a few questions around Dashboards and Scorecards. I think it is good to enumerate the differences between the two so that when you are ready to implement you don't lose sight of the differences.

So, without further ado, here are the differences that I like to use...

Business Focus	Tactical, Operational	Strategic
Primary purpose	Performance measurement	Performance management
Typical users	LOB staff, operational managers, front-line workers, execs, managers	Executives, managers
Update frequency	Real-time, right time	Periodic
Time perspective	Historical & current metrics	Historical, current, and future
Business impact	Summarizes and visually represents performance measures	Integrates and compares strategic goals, objectives and performance measures
